Residents of Waterloo and its sprawling environs can now breathe a sigh of relief as Rokel Commercial Bank (RCB) officially inaugurated its newest branch there on Tuesday.

This landmark opening eliminates the often arduous and time-consuming journey into the Freetown municipality for banking transactions, bringing essential financial services directly to the heart of this vibrant cosmopolitan hub.

The establishment of a fully functional branch in Waterloo marks a significant milestone for a community characterized by a large population with historically limited or no access to formal financial institutions.

The development has been widely hailed by ordinary residents as a major catalyst for economic growth and improved convenience, as RCB promises to deliver a comprehensive suite of banking products and services, tailored to meet the diverse needs of the Waterloo community.

This strategic expansion follows closely on the heels of another successful branch opening at Cline Town in eastern Freetown barely a month ago. These consecutive openings underscore Rokel Commercial Bank’s undeniable credentials as the fastest-growing financial institution in Sierra Leone, said Sajoh Bah, RCB’s director of banking supervision.

He added that the bank is a “major trailblazer in the development of the banking industry in Sierra Leone” and called on the Waterloo community to embrace and patronize the bank, emphasizing its identity as a truly indigenous institution dedicated to national development.

Dr. Walton Ekundayo Gilpin, managing director at Rokel Commercial Bank reiterated his management’s unwavering commitment to aggressive growth and market dominance. He encouraged the people of Waterloo to “own” the bank, saying RCB is a “people-centered” institution.

Dr. Gilpin said the new branch is not merely a transactional hub but a partner in the community’s progress, offering solutions designed to foster financial literacy and empowerment.

The grand opening ceremony was a well-attended event, graced by a host of distinguished guests and stakeholders. Notable attendees included John Sumaila, RCBank board chairman and Reverend Archer Campbell, a respected board member. Also present were representatives from the Armed Forces Training Center (AFTC) and officials from the Western Rural District Council.

The atmosphere was one of palpable excitement and optimism, as community leaders and residents alike celebrated this significant step toward greater financial inclusion and economic prosperity for Waterloo.
