The African Leadership Organisation (UK) board on Sunday appointed RCB’s Managing Director Dr. Walton Gilpin as chairman of the African Leadership Council (ALC) Sierra Leone Chapter in an event that coincided with Rokel Commercial Bank’s silver jubilee celebrations.
ALC’s representative Samuel Elaikwu officially presented Dr. Gilpin with the insignia of office and a certificate of listing as one of the top 40 African Caribbean business leaders for 2024.
The ALC serves to influence and advance global opportunities for African countries, and as the new chair of this divestiture, Dr. Gilpin has made a solemn pledge to leverage these opportunities in promoting Sierra Leone on the global business stage.
Prior to this appointment, Dr. Gilpin had been recognized by the Pan-African Leadership Magazine as one of the top 25 African Banking Leaders on the continent and had received the prestigious US Congressional Award from the State of Carolina in 2023, among other high-profile recognitions.
In his statement, Dr. Gilpin described the appointment as a victory for Sierra Leone, while encouraging his compatriots to share positive narratives about the country to the outside world that would enhance its image at international levels.
“This is clearly a testament to President Julius Maada Bio’s visionary leadership and the confidence he reposed in me to continue steering RCBank in the right direction,” Gilpin said. He also assured the Bank of Sierra Leone of RCB’s readiness to accommodate the national switch instant payment system which allows banks to utilize a single platform.
