The All People’s Congress (APC) has officially settled a penalty of NLe120,000 for contravening provisions of the Political Parties Act of 2022. The payment was confirmed today by the Political Parties Regulation Commission (PPRC), marking the conclusion of a disciplinary action against the main opposition party.
The fine was levied against the APC specifically for “incendiary and inciting” rhetoric attributed to its Falaba district chairman, Hon. Lahai Marah. The controversial statements were reportedly made in reference to the upcoming 2028 general elections and were deemed by the PPRC to be a clear violation of the Act, which mandates responsible and non-inflammatory political discourse.
Initially, the APC had publicly challenged the sanction imposed by the regulatory body. However, in a shift of position, the party has now conceded to the PPRC’s ruling. This decision was formally announced in a press statement released by the PPRC earlier today, confirming the receipt of the full payment and the party’s adherence to the commission’s directive.
The PPRC, in its role as the statutory body overseeing the conduct of political parties, emphasized that the disciplinary action underscores its commitment to enforcing the rule of law and maintaining a peaceful political environment ahead of the next electoral cycle.
