Inspector General of Police William Fayia Sellu has officially bid farewell to the advance team of Formed Police Unit 6 (FPU-6) ahead of their deployment to Somalia for a peacekeeping mission under the African Union and United Nations Support Office in Somalia (AU/UNSOS) framework.

The send-off followed the successful completion of a rigorous pre-deployment training program by the officers, which included intensive weapons handling and tactical exercises in line with international peacekeeping standards.

In an atmosphere filled with pride and optimism, IGP Sellu commended the officers for their discipline and commitment, describing the training as “vigorous and intensive.” He encouraged the team to maintain the highest standards of professionalism, reminding them of the weight of the responsibility they carry.

“You are not just representing the Sierra Leone Police, but your families and the entire nation,” the IGP said.

He also expressed strong confidence in the team’s leadership, singling out Contingent Commander Superintendent Ibrahim M. F. Samura for his “proven track record in discipline and leadership.”

“I trust you, and I wish you all the best as you embark on this noble assignment,” he added.

In his remarks, Supt. Samura expressed gratitude to the IGP, the SLP executive management board and the government for the trust placed in the team. He assured that the contingent would uphold the integrity of the Sierra Leone Police and carry the national flag high in Somalia.

The brief but symbolic farewell ceremony was attended by the Head of Peacekeeping Operations, Assistant Commissioner of Police John Fayia Tumbay.
