Late this evening, the Ministry of Information and Civic Education published an update regarding the suspected mpox case. Contrary to initial concerns, laboratory tests of the collected samples revealed a negative result for mpox.
Nevertheless, the ministry acknowledged that the 32-year-old patient exhibited prominent signs and symptoms characteristic of a pox-like virus.
“The signs and symptoms of the patient, who is now deceased, were very profound for a pox-like virus,” the ministry said in a Facebook post.
The post further suggested that health authorities will continue their investigations and conduct additional tests to determine the cause of the patient’s symptoms.
The National Public Health Agency has not released any subsequent updates to their previously issued statement.
