Hon Ousman Timbo, APC deputy national secretary-general

Hon. Ousman Timbo resigned from the APC national secretariat on Wednesday, with many speculating that he is setting his sights on the party’s flagbearer position for the upcoming 2028 presidential elections.

Sources close to Timbo suggest that his ambition to lead the party is a key factor behind this decision.

Despite his resignation, Timbo says he is “fully committed” to serving the APC. He emphasises that this decision should not be interpreted as an abandonment of the party or politics.

Timbo said that he intends to consult with the party’s membership and stakeholders to determine his next course of action. He assured the public that he would make a formal announcement regarding his future plans in due time.

Timbo’s resignation comes amidst a growing interest among young APC members who aspire to lead the party into the 2028 presidential elections.

However, these young aspirants are reportedly facing resistance from older party members who have been entrenched in APC politics for longer periods.

According to the APC’s constitution, the party is mandated to elect its flagbearer through a national delegates conference scheduled for next year. This conference should be preceded by a series of lower-level elections to choose zonal, constituency, district, and regional executives.

However, the party has not yet made any official announcements regarding these elections.
