President Donald Trump on August 5 signed an executive order creating a White House Task Force to “coordinate federal planning and response” for the 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games in Los Angeles (LA28). The Task Force will oversee security, transportation, and visa processing for foreign athletes, coaches, officials, and media personnel.
White House said the move underscores the administration’s commitment to ensuring a well-organized and secure event, calling LA28 a “powerful opportunity to showcase American strength and pride” while welcoming the world to U.S. shores.
“The Federal Government will lead a unified effort to ensure maximum safety, secure borders, and world-class transportation for millions of visitors throughout the 2028 Summer Olympic and Paralympic Games,” the executive order states.
This will be Los Angeles’ third time hosting the Olympic Games, following the 1932 and 1984 editions. In June, the LA28 organizing committee launched its PlayLA program for children aged 3–17, attracting over one million registrations, with around 700 young participants engaging in sports such as athletics, aquatics, boxing, flag football, judo, para surfing, and adaptive swimming.
“When the world comes here for these Games, we will highlight every neighbourhood as we host Games for all and work to ensure they leave a monumental legacy,” said Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass.
The Task Force, co-chaired by Trump and Vice President J. D. Vance, will coordinate law enforcement, counterterrorism, and emergency response efforts to ensure operational readiness for LA28.
