Vice President Dr. Mohamed Juldeh Jalloh visited the Connaught Hospital on Tuesday to evaluate the progress of several major projects aimed at improving healthcare delivery and accessibility for citizens.

Among the initiatives inspected was the construction of a highly anticipated burns unit, a response to the devastating Wellington fire incident. Additionally, the installation of a 1 MW energy system aimed at enhancing the facility’s energy supply and the operationalization of an electronic medical records system, launched a year ago by the vice president’s office, were also assessed.

The tour also included an inspection of the new microbiology lab, dialysis center, and trauma units, representing critical investments in improving diagnosis, treatment, and overall patient care.

Dr. Juldeh Jalloh emphasized the importance of the burns unit, stating that its completion will not only serve Sierra Leone but also support neighboring Guinea and Liberia through specialized training in burns management, fostering regional healthcare collaboration.

Collaborating closely with Health Minister Dr. Austin Demby, the vice president’s office plays a pivotal role in ensuring the effective implementation of strategic healthcare delivery initiatives under President Julius Maada Bio’s leadership. The health unit within the vice president’s office, along with various development partners, has been instrumental in supporting these efforts.

Expressing satisfaction with the numerous achievements in the healthcare sector over the years, Dr. Juldeh Jalloh noted the significant transformation of Connaught Hospital, stating, “Connaught yesterday is far different from the one today.”

As Sierra Leone continues to prioritize accessible and quality healthcare, these initiatives underscore the government’s commitment to improving the nation’s healthcare system and fostering regional collaboration.
