Orange Sierra Leone, Mobihive launch ‘Tross Phone’ device financing scheme

Orange Sierra Leone, in partnership with Mobihive, has launched the ‘Tross Phone’ initiative, a device financing scheme that allows customers to acquire selected smartphones on credit and repay through monthly installments.

The initiative enables eligible customers to access smartphones from Samsung, Tecno, Nokia and Infinix, with repayments spread over four months. Available models include Samsung A05, A06, A07 and A16; Tecno Pop 10; Nokia C01; and Infinix Space 10. Devices can be purchased at Orange’s Hill Station headquarters, Rawdon Street branch and Wellington shop, with nationwide rollout expected in 2026.

To qualify, customers must hold a valid National Identification Card and be Orange Money subscribers. A 38 percent upfront payment—covering the first month’s installment—grants immediate access to the device. The remaining balance is paid over three months via Orange Money. Customers receive two gigabytes of data with each successful monthly repayment. Mobihive’s remote-locking technology applies in cases of default, while full ownership transfers to customers once payments are completed.

Speaking at the launch, George Otis Campbell, who oversees Strategy, Innovation, Digital Content and Devices at Orange Sierra Leone, said the initiative is designed to help customers upgrade to quality smartphones without heavy upfront costs. He said Mobihive provides the financing capital and technology, while Orange delivers the product through its nationwide distribution network.

Campbell noted that the scheme requires only a national ID and has no minimum network tenure, reflecting rising demand for affordable smartphone access.

Chief Marketing Officer and Director for Strategy, Transformation and Marketing Mamadou Bousso said the initiative responds to customer needs by improving digital access. He described mobile phones as essential tools for communication, education and business, adding that affordability remains central to Orange’s strategy.

Mobihive Country Director Yuvraj Jaiswal said the partnership marks a key milestone for the UK-based fintech firm in Sierra Leone. He said Mobihive leverages expertise in telecom, fintech, data and artificial intelligence to deliver integrated financing solutions that expand smartphone ownership.

The Tross Phone initiative represents a step toward greater digital inclusion in Sierra Leone, offering customers a structured and affordable pathway to smartphone ownership.
