In a noteworthy display of corporate social responsibility, Orange Sierra Leone last Friday donated 100 durable tarpaulins to the National Commission for Persons with Disability through the Ministry of Social Welfare.
The official handover ceremony was attended by the Minister of Social Welfare, Mrs. Melrose Karminty, representatives from the National Commission for Persons with Disability, Orange Sierra Leone, and various disabled groups.
Piloya Grace Nollah, Director of Hands-on Development and Social Transformation at the National Commission for Persons with Disability, acknowledged the complaints received during the previous rainy season regarding leaky roofs and flooding at shelters for persons with disabilities nationwide. This prompted her to reach out to Orange Sierra Leone for assistance, and she commended the company for understanding the plight of these vulnerable groups and providing support.
Zainab Kamara, representing Empowerment for Disabilities and Social Integration group, expressed deep gratitude to Orange Sierra Leone for their relentless efforts in alleviating the dire conditions of vulnerable groups. She emphasized the need for businesses like Orange Sierra Leone to utilize their developmentally oriented initiatives to positively impact society, adding that the support not only offers physical shelter but also stems from a deep sense of empathy.
Dannetta Younge, the General Secretary of Orange Sierra Leone, delivered a compelling speech highlighting the company’s commitment to adhering to its corporate social responsibility (CSR). She reiterated that the donation embodies one of the company’s core values of Care, alongside being responsible and bold. Younge stated that Orange Sierra Leone’s CSR ambition is firmly rooted in its value to show ‘Care’ for the communities in which it operates, positioning Orange as more than just an investor in Sierra Leone.
Younge commended the minister’s dedication to promoting inclusivity and the rights of persons living with disabilities, concluding that the company will continue to support worthy initiatives such as these.
