A young man was killed in Rotifunk on Friday by a mob of angry youth who accused him of selling tramadol. However, conflicting reports suggest that the victim, Alex Foyor Will (photo), had collected money to buy tramadol but failed to deliver.
The incident has sparked widespread condemnation from the Moyamba Human Rights Defenders Network, which described the killing as “a tragic and reprehensible act.” The group is calling for the police to bring the perpetrators to justice and to address what they described as the growing issue of mob justice in the community.
According to the rights group, mob justice reflects a deep-seated distrust in the formal justice system and poses a significant threat to human rights. They have urged the police to conduct community outreach programs to raise awareness about the dangers of mob justice and promote the rule of law.
