Orange Money partner with Skye Bank Sierra Leone to enhance digital banking

The 'bank-to-wallet' service enables customers to transfer money to and from their bank accounts through the Orange Money platform.

Sierra Leone’s leading telecom giant’s subsidiary Orange Money and Skye Bank Sierra Leone Ltd. agreed on a partnership on Wednesday to introduce a ‘bank to wallet’ service, a digital banking service that enables customers to transfer money from their bank accounts to their mobile money wallet and vice versa.

Skye Bank’s executive director Akinremi Akinwale Oladipo expressed enthusiasm for the partnership, stating it would enhance customers’ satisfaction in digital banking and other financial services.

“We are partnering with Orange Money to form a formidable force in the digital banking world. It is important for financial inclusion and making banking services simple, safe, and convenient for our customers,” said Oladipo.

Orange Money chief executive officer David Mansaray echoed this sentiment, emphasising the commitment to customer satisfaction. “We care about our customers, and we only exist because of our customers,” he said. Mansaray also highlighted Orange Money’s ongoing efforts to integrate the financial sector into the mobile digital banking system.

“It’s been quite an exciting journey in integrating the banking sector to our mobile money system. We have already integrated eight banks into our mobile money [bank-to-wallet] system,” Mansaray added.

The service launch featured presentations detailing the registration and activation process for the ‘Bank to Wallet’ service. Customers must have both an Orange Money account and a Skye Bank account to utilize the service. Registration is free, and the initial steps can be completed by dialing a short code and following the prompts. Final activation is done at any Skye Bank branch.

This partnership marks a significant step towards expanding financial access and convenience for Sierra Leoneans. Both Orange Money and Skye Bank are optimistic about the potential of this collaboration to drive innovation and growth in the digital banking sector.
