Martin Michael to attend Sierra Leone Diaspora Investment Conference

Sierra Leone’s upcoming Diaspora Investment Conference will feature a prominent guest, Martin E. Michael (photo), the CEO of Mercury International and a distinguished legal professional. Hailing from Bo district, Michael has made significant contributions to Sierra Leone’s business and legal sectors.

As CEO of Mercury International, Michael has spearheaded the company’s remarkable turnaround from near-bankruptcy to becoming one of the country’s largest and most profitable businesses. Mercury International currently employs over 6,500 Sierra Leoneans and contributes $4 million annually in taxes, supporting the government’s national development agenda.

Michael’s leadership has also elevated Mercury International’s corporate social responsibility initiatives. The company actively supports arts, media, and sports, while contributing to education and healthcare. Between 2008 and 2024, Mercury International awarded over $2 million in scholarships and funded life-saving medical treatments for over 100 Sierra Leoneans. Holding an LLB (Hons) from the University of Manchester and a Degree of Utter Barrister from the Sierra Leone Law School, Michael has served in various senior legal positions, including roles at Tejan-Cole Michael and Associates and Margai and Co. He has also shared his expertise as a lecturer at the Sierra Leone Law School.
